For a Photoshop 2 class assignment at NEIT, I had to create an Art Deco-inspired poster for a modern day tv show. The TV show I chose was Star Vs the Forces of Evil.
Art Deco
Art Deco is a style that was popular in the 1930s it uses basic shapes, gradients, and weighted type to capture the essence of the style. So by using these examples, I was able to figure out how to go about creating a basic art deco poster.
Art Deco Piece
The work was put together by using gradients light to dark on all the places where there were different main pieces like the hair and her clothes. The gradients all go in the same direction to give a light source and shadow illusion. Type matching the time period was chosen to complete the poster.
Tricks I learned using Illustrator
The illustration part of the poster was done pretty much all in illustrator and it pulled off the effects I needed better than photoshop. It also allowed me to create the parts smaller and then resize them to fit the image. Now that I’m more proficient in Illustrator if I were to do this assignment again I would be able to pull off a cleaner image.
