3 Tips for Getting Through the Stress of Inktober

October is almost over so Illustrators and Artists are finishing up with an art challenge called Inktober. So, you’ve wanted to participate but let’s be real the burnout and stress of creating traditional art stopped you. I know because that is what always stopped me from doing the Inktober challenge. Click to read more and I’ll share with you my tips for getting through Inktober. Who knows maybe it’ll inspire you to draw every day.

Tip 1- Don’t try to Create a ‘Piece’ Everyday

This is what causes as I’ve stated above the burnout for Inktober. A lot of people look a You-tubers and want to create a completed ‘piece’ every day. When I say ‘piece’ I mean what you personally consider a completed finished piece of art and I do mean you specifically because this varies from person to person.

You-tubers and people who run some sort of art blog are creating art pieces for their full-time job. If your not able to spend hours or even your full day to drawing this isn’t a good goal to have.

Tip 2 – Be Prepared to Make Mistakes

Ink is forever but your anxiety using it doesn’t have to be. The second tip is that there is no undo button what you put down on that paper is never coming off. Again, I highly recommend if you don’t use traditional media regularly do small little drawings every day for Inktober. I mean I’m just saying… if you don’t regularly work in the medium its just unnecessary stress.

Watching DrawingwiffWaffles really inspired me to go and just draw every day. Her videos showing how she messes up as well as learning as she goes helped me get over the initial fear.

Tip 3 – Cheat

The final tip is me telling you its okay to cheat. Inktober at a core is an artist’s exercise and I’m not telling you to trace, you can if you really want to. Use references and anything else that you feel lessens your load. For example, some people use stamps in their pieces. I personally like to use washi tape when I don’t want a solid piece of clothing.
